We then decided to make a cake for our 4th of July barbecue tonight. Carrie heard that Alisa's Chocolate Beet Cake was the best chocolate cake around so we decided to give it a try. (Don't be grossed out by the beets in the recipe, you can't taste them). Here's a picture of the cake after it was baked and frosted...looks pretty good huh?

WRONG
After cutting into it it looked like this:
That is NOT fudge! That is ooey, gooey cake batter that did not get baked all the way. I baked the cake 10 minutes longer than the recipe said so there is no excuse of it being under done. The flavor was nasty and the texture was too dense for my liking. It could very well be because I'm not a good baker, but I'd like to blame the recipe instead of my baking skills.Carrie & I were so embarrassed to serve this at our party. Our friends said it
was delicious but I know they were saying it just to be nice.
I'm warning you.......
don't ever make chocolate beet cake or you'll be disappointed.

Bummer. it's the thought that counts, eh? It actually still looks pretty good--in a gooey, fudgey kind of way.
Don't believe this post people!! It was not near that bad!! The chef is always the biggest critic.
Bummer about your chocolate cake but the ebelskivers look awesome - are those blueberries?? Glad you have had a fun visitor - company always makes life more enjoyable. Well, I guess it depends on who it is. :)
yummy! (not the cake...beets are nasty!) :)
hope you had a great 4th!!
Good tips.
Why haven't I ever had that yummy looking breakfast?
I'll have to try it.
Sounds like a perfect day to me!
That food looks so good. How come you got all of the talent in our family? I think you need to move closer so we can benifit from it at least!
Sounds like a fun day! What system is American Idol Karaoke on? I would love to play it! Your cooking looks delicious (even if it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to!)
