Here is a brief itinerary of our trip along with some pictures! We took over 400 pictures and there's no way I can add them all here, so if you're absolutely dying to see more pics, let me know!
DAY 1
*Took a stroll through Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens
*Walked through Picadilly Circus
*Shopped at Harrod's
DAY 2 (Thanksgiving in the USA)
*Saw all the major sites in London
-Big Ben
-Parliament
-Buckingham Palace
-Tower of London
-Tower Bridge
-Westminster Abbey
*Rode on the London Eye
*Saw the musical "WICKED"
when you'd rather be doing something else. What a good sport you were!
DAY 3
*Rented a car and drove to the Cotswolds. Dan did all the driving and there were a few times we thought we weren't going to make it back alive. It was so strange being on the other side of the street, and having to look the opposite way than in the states.
*Went to Stratford Upon Avon-the birthplace of Shakespeare. It was one of my favorite towns.

Kate Winslet and Elizabeth Hurley have a home here (at the Cotswolds)
and fell in love with it. I wish it were for sale...I'd have Dan buy it for me for Christmas!
DAY 4
*Drove South to East Horsley-saw the house Dan lived in for 2 years. We knocked on the door and introduced ourselves, and the couple that lived there actually let us go in and check it out. I think that was the highlight of Dan's trip.
*Walked through Bodiam Castle (East Sussex, UK)
*Visited the Battle of Hastings battle grounds
*Went to Eastbourne and saw the Seven Sisters (white chalk cliffs)

DAY 5 - PARIS
Our friends left on Sunday so we decided to take a trip to Paris since neither of us had been there before. We took the Eurostar (Chunnel) over Sunday morning and were only there for one day. Paris is a beautiful city, but one word of advice: Don't ever go on Sunday because everything is closed. Yes, we got to see all the big sites but all the cute shops and restaurants were closed. I guess God was trying to teach us a lesson on observing the Sabbath Day!
*Eiffel Tower
*Notre Dame
*Arc de Triomphe
*Ate lots of crepes
*Couldn't get over the fact that French people hate Americans

Ok, first of all...I adore your coat!!! You look so darling in every single picture. Wow. Second...it looks like it was a fantastic vacation for you two and I am so happy you got to go! I totally recognize Dan's old house. We have lots of pictures of it from when my mom and Grandma went over to visit them. Glad you got home safely. Thanks for sharing!
You guys looked like you had so much fun! I got goosebumps when I saw the picture of the house where Shakespeare was born! When I was in London I walked all the way down the Thames river to the Rose Theater, his theater... it was such an amazing thing to see, and pretty small - I think my expectations where that it would be bigger.
Welcome home, guys!
HOW FUN!!!! I can't wait to hear more about it all! The pictures are so fun and I adore your coat and hat - so cute! I won't get into how jealous I am of just about everything you did, but I am glad to hear it was great!
Now catch up on your sleep, figure out what time zone you are in, and let's get together soon :D
You are so dang cute. You look perfect in every picture. I do pity you a little for missing turkey.... but really, you can eat that any time of year.
I am glad that you had a great time
Love it! What a photogenic couple; Christmas card photo anyone? You got some great pictures and it looks like you jammed in plenty of great stuff in the course of a week. I am glad you had so much fun.
Awesome pics, Merianne! You saw so many great things. I totally second what you said about french people- I felt the same way when I was there 6 years ago. Their loss. Your trip looked awesome, and I also loved your coat! :)
That's my town! I do love living here and it looks like you had a nice time visiting. Too bad we couldn't get together but I understand how little time you have on these whirlwind tours. Yes, the dollar does suck here but we are paid in pounds so whenever we go back to the states we buy everything and everyone dinner because it is just so darn cheap!
Love the coat...you guys took some darling photos. I am glad you spent the money and went for it. Tell Dan he looks very handsome in that coat, and looks like he fits right in there!
WOW! You guys were able to see SOOO much! It looks like so much fun. We would love to go there and see those famous sites!
Talk to you soon!
Mer, that's awesome! I wish I could have been there with you! One day...cross my fingers, I'll see London, I'll see France, I'll see someone's underpants! (Hee, Hee!)
Mer- you look SO cute in all your pictures. Seriously, you could be a model for the tourist agencies of London and Paris. It looks like you had a blast!!
I have to agree with joanna - I was thinking the same as she did - I love your coat Mer and you look fantastic. What a fun thing for you guys to go and do! I loved your pictures - and I'd love to see more!
Welcome back! But, I ENVY YOU!! Your pictures are AMAZING! You definitely saw lots more of England than I did (we just did the London stuff mostly). But it was fun to see all your pics --- because some of our photos were literally taken in the same spot as yours! I now want all the little details when you get a chance...I'm being serious.
Hello Merianne and Dan! Can I just say, I am completely JEALOUS of this fun-tastic trip you guys took!! It looks like it was amazing. I'm so glad you found our blog so I could find yours, and yes, can you believe it's been 2 years since Bailey was born?? Crazy. Hope you're doing great; we miss Oakton all the time.
PS Did you know my dream is to become a pastry chef/cake decorator?? And Kurt wants to open a bakery? We should pool our resources....
Wow! How Awesome! What a fun experience for your guys! Abby
